Derrick Woods joined HOAF as a Litigation Associate in 2026. As a trial lawyer with deep experience in insurance defense, he maintains a diverse litigation practice focusing on trucking, transportation, and personal injury matters.

Derrick has successfully litigated civil cases throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. He is highly skilled in arguing motions in court, preparing successful dispositive motions, and negotiating settlements that effectively minimize client exposure.

Prior to joining HOAF, Derrick honed his litigation skills by practicing insurance defense, primarily focusing on third-party litigation suits. This background provided him with extensive experience in developing and implementing litigation strategies to try cases and evaluate and resolve complex legal matters.

A first-generation attorney originally from Connecticut, Derrick earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Bridgeport and his law degree from Southern University Law Center. He received his law license in 2019 and subsequently moved to Dallas to begin his legal career.

In his free time, Derrick enjoys hiking, cooking, and following a variety of sports, including basketball, baseball, and football.
